Domain 4: Professional Learning and Ethical Practices

Overview

The primary focus of this domain is on demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of ASD to address social and ethical issues in education professionally and ethically. Evidence should showcase how educators apply knowledge of ASD definitions, identification, placement options, and historical and current trends to foster individualized education and life planning. It should highlight the use of individual strengths to enhance communication and social skills through assistive technology and communication aids, emphasizing self-determination, self-advocacy, and active family and community engagement. The goal is to improve the overall quality of life for individuals with ASD.

4.1 Definitions & issues related to the identification

For this artifact, I learned to identify and understand the core characteristics of ASD—social, communication, cognitive, and sensory—and how they influence the identification process. This insight helps in creating effective, individualized plans that address each student's unique challenges and strengths.
